Contemporary Botanicals - Evening Primrose study 2026

Contemporary Botanicals - Some of which can be seen at Velarde Gallery 28th March -28th June 2026

Contemporary Botanicals

This body of work began during a Fellowship at the Bogliasco Foundation, Italy. New evidence of the extent of plastic pollution worldwide made me more concerned about endangered flora and fauna on the coastline and inland. Experimenting with the pollutant itself, taking paint casts (with acrylic) from pieces of found plastic, peeling them off, and reassembling them as collage within a painting. The language of plastic.

The destructive nature of discarded plastic in our environment is a cause for great concern. Connecting with the natural world has become increasingly essential for a healthy ecosystem.

This body of Contemporary Botanicals focuses on the simplicity, essence, power of colour that might be felt by the viewer when looking at one single flower.
